Rio Piedras and Santurce

During our stay in San Juan, we went to two farmers markets. They were both inside, out of the sun. We were a little disappointed, as they were not very large. They sold fruit and vegetables, and had booths where local food could be purchased. The first market was the market at Rio Piedras.

Market in Rio Piedras

Stan tried pigs feet, rice, and potato salad.

Diana tried a beef empanada, a fried bread stuffed with beef.

The second market was the one in Santurce.

Diana tried a beef alcapurria, a fritter made with a batter of taro and green bananas, stuffed with beef.

Stan tried a chicken empanadilla, a deep fried half moon shaped pastry stuffed with chicken.

He also tried a taco pizza fritter.
